Yaumati Ferry Service.
Your reference No.999/1919.
Mesars. Lowe, Bingham & Matthews who have for
some time past been investigating the papers and accounts relating to this Ferry Service with a view to formulating our clients statement of loss have seen us with reference to your letter to us of the 29th October, 1920. In that letter you state that the Secretary of State for the Colonies had expressed the opinion that our clients should be paid for all loss actually incurred by them, and then you add in brackets "i.e. excluding loss in respect of future profits". Messrs. Lowe, Bingham & Matthews are unable to reconcile these two statements, as loss of future profits is a loss actually sustained by our clients.
It seems only reasonable that one of the items of our clients' claim should be compensation for the loss of the goodwill of the business of which the Government has obtained the benefit.

We have, &c.,
Johnson Stokes & Master.
